So you’re sick of commuting from your bed, to the kitchen, to your desk, and back 50 times a day. A little inspiration can go a long way when it comes to your home office! Now, I know there’s some stuff out there that says inspirational quotes are actually detrimental to our mindset, but I disagree with you there. Yes, maybe the tacky overdone quotes we’ve all seen our entire lives are a little much, but I think incorporating words of wisdom and praise into your office decor doesn’t hurt at all.
Words of encouragement do not have to be the same old quotes you’ve always seen about having some sparkle. There’s absolutely nothing wrong with you if you’re a big fan of that Kate Spade quote, however, I’m talking personalized inspo here. What means something to YOU. What really gets you going, makes you laugh, gets you in the zone.
Believe it or not, having the tv on while I work keeps me focused (but we’ll save that nonsense for another day). Do sarcastic quotes get you back on track, is it a motivational background on your Amazon Alexa? Do quotes about adventure push you to get your work done so you can go outside and venture around? I’m going to dive into different types of quotes and how to display them to keep your home office feeling motivational.
Displaying Your Quotes
First, let’s figure out how we’re going to display our quotes. While you may think you’re limited to your desktop computer background, there are so many subtle ways. The first way is yes, your desktop background. The only issue with this is that you probably won’t end up seeing it that much. But hey, it doesn’t hurt. If you’re having one of those days where you’re sitting and staring blankly at your screen, wishing it was already 5 and you had a glass of wine, hey, maybe that quote will at least make you laugh at yourself. The other primary way to display your quotes and inspiration is the old fashion way: on your walls! What I love about displaying these on your wall are the versatile ways to actually hang them.
The Desktop screen quote
Selecting a desktop screen quote is pretty self-explanatory. This is an easy way to motivate yourself, simply put. This is one of the many ways to customize your home office workspace in a discreet way. I’m linking some of my favorites below that you can download for your own personal use!
You can also find some great ones on: Etsy, Creative Tribe, etc.
The Wall Decor
Let’s get to the fun stuff: WALL DECOR! There are so many fun ways to dress up your walls in your home office, but today our focus is on motivation and inspiration. While everyone is inspired by something, we all tend to find it in something different. Because of this, motivational quotes are very objective to each person. When your mind starts to wander during the day, and you look up at your wall, what would you need to glance at to get you back on track? What inspires you? Travel, the success of someone like-minded, your pets? You get it. For me, it’s CEO boss inspirational quotes. So first, we need to figure out what your vibe is. I’m going to break it into three categories:
1. Basic Quotes for the Not So Basic Chick
2. Sarcastic and Witty
3. Meaningful Symbols
I’m going to talk about each of these and then make a few combo wall murals of all combined for those of you like me who need a little bit of everything.
Basic Quotes for the Not So Basic Chick
Let’s get one thing straight, I’m certainly not calling you basic. Some of my favorite inspirational wall quotes relating to work are the ones you’ve seen forever. AND THAT’S OKAY. These quotes are the easiest to find anyways if you want them printed on little signs for example. Here are some that may do it for you:
Sarcastic & Witty
Besides the fact that these are two words I would use to describe myself, this is the title of our next category. These are the funny signs that make you smile when you see them. I’m a big fan of this category because I’m a firm believer that sarcasm makes everything better. I find that these are more direct, they just personally mean more to me than the quotes above. Here are a few examples:
Meaningful Symbols
It’s difficult to display examples for this category because obviously, the symbols have to be meaningful to you specifically. For the sake of the discussion, I will show you what means something to me! Symbols or photos that are meaningful to me are my dog, travel, and plants just to name a few. These images are pieces that you’ll want to mix in with your quotes if you’re constructing a collage wall above your desk. Think of things that bring you joy when you look at them. Is it the “&” symbol because it reminds you of your marriage, a sketch of your mom’s favorite flower, or a paw print for those fur babies. Here are some pieces with meaning to me:
So you’ve picked your favorite pieces!
Now we get to do the fun stuff, creating your photo wall of inspiration. There are many ways to create a gallery wall. Some very technical, and if you’re like me you just wing it. This all depends on your space, vibe, wall size, and so on. These are JUST guidelines. Using some form of layout allows you to create aesthetically pleasing combos. These examples do not mean you need to fill the entire space. For example, if you don’t have a vertical photo, simply hang a plant in that space, use your imagination. Below are a couple of simple gallery wall layouts:
Now all that’s left is your imagination!
This really is all up to you, what layouts and images inspire you, what keeps you on track. Here’s a mockup of what I would do using all prints from Amazon:
1.Beach Photography 2.Wall Hanging 3.Creative Minds 4.Get Shit Done 5.Yesterday Now Tomorrow
* In reality, my gallery wall would probably look different than this example, but I wanted to show you an example with some easy cheap Amazon pieces!
There you have it, an easy wall of inspiration for your home office.
A little inspiration can go a long way, and it’s fairly easy to do. We all get inspired by different things. While most would limit motivational wall art to quotes, I feel that so much more pushes us. Reminders of the things we love can keep us on track, keep us focused on the goal. Until next time, happy working!
